About Herark
An independent games developer and publisher based in Melbourne, Australia, working across all genres.
The company
Herark Pty Ltd was incorporated in 2026 to develop and publish original games, and operates from Melbourne, Australia. The company is independent. It is not a subsidiary, a work-for-hire studio, or a label operating under another publisher.
That independence is the point rather than a detail. It means we choose what to make, decide when a game is finished, and carry the commercial risk ourselves. It also means we can work on a game until it is actually good instead of shipping to a date set by someone with no stake in the result.
What we do
We do both halves of the job. As a developer, we design and build games in-house: concept, prototype, production, art, code and testing. As a publisher, we handle everything between a finished build and a player buying it, which means the Steam store presence, the build and release pipeline, age ratings, pricing, launch timing and post-release patching.
Most studios of our size hand the second half to someone else and give away a share of revenue and a great deal of control along with it. Doing it ourselves keeps both.
How we work
Our approach is built around finishing, because the common failure mode for a small studio is not a bad idea. It is an ambitious one that never ships. In practice that means proving the core loop of a game in a rough, ugly prototype before any production work begins, cutting scope at the point we first suspect it is too large rather than months later, and getting playable builds in front of people outside the studio early enough that their reaction can still change the game.
We would rather release a smaller game that is finished and holds together than a larger one that is perpetually six months away.
What a Herark release will be
Some commitments are easier to make now, before there is any commercial pressure to break them:
- Finished at launch. A game goes out when it is complete and stable, not when a quarter ends.
- Priced honestly. One purchase buys the whole game. No mechanics designed to make the game worse until you pay again.
- Supported after release. Bugs that survive launch get fixed. A release is the start of a game's life, not the end of our involvement in it.
- Clear about what it is. Store pages, trailers and screenshots will show the game as it actually plays.
Who runs it
Herark is founder-led, and development and publishing are done in house. Enquiries reach the founder directly at inquiry@herark.net. There is no switchboard to get through.
